  1. Fun fact: The Real Hugh Glass found a rotten tree trunk that had maggots on it and rolled on it to get maggots onto his body. As gross as that sound, it honestly saved his life from infection.

    Maggots are by far the oldest and even most effective method in medicine to get rid of infected and rotten tissue because that is the only thing they would consume in your wound. They don’t touch the healthy tissue, thus cleaning out your wound and significantly reducing the chances of the wound festering and growing infected. Maggot therapy is even used in our hospitals to this day, the only difference is that the maggots are raised in a lab and are sterile.
